The Sunbrella fabric is supposed to be water-resistant, but it doesn't resist very hard. We were shocked at how flimsy it seemed. I don't find an explanation for the feature online and none was included with the umbrella. I did get the umbrella on sale, but even then it wasn't inexpensive and took over 6 weeks to arrive.
